Description:

Converstion of a 150 year old church into a modern mixed-use structure.

Challenge:

Sold to a new private owner in 2016, the Church of The Living Word required modern variances, zoning updates, a keen design eye, and a fully modernized interior to save it from the wrecking ball.

Solution:

After an initial survey and conceptual design, an extensive approval process began to bring the vision for True Hand Society's new commercial home in the church sanctuary and the accompanying residential space to life. The desire was to save as much of the original architecture as possible, including stair towers, the balcony, exposed wood ceiling and light fixtures, the pipe organ wall, 20' stained glass windows, and original hardwood flooring. United Makers accomplished this, along with modernizing all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and a complete renovation of the floor one living space and sanctuary (floor 2 and balcony) commercial space.
